1. Question: Research inquiry into the artist Andy Warhol and find out what he did with his art.

Andrew Warhola or commonly known as Andy Warhol was a pop icon of the 1960’s, born August 6, 1928, in the industrial city of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Andy showed an early talent in drawing and painting. After high school he studied commercial art at the Carnegie Institute of Technology in Pittsburgh. Andy got accepted to many firms and created a name for himself. Andy Warhol is best known for his exploration of Pop Art, mass-producing images of mass-produced objects. Warhol experimented in media such as film, sculpture, paint, and silkscreen, but perhaps his greatest work was his invention of himself as an international celebrity and pop culture icon. His most famous works depicted Campbell's soup cans. Enlarged, hand-painted or silkscreened, framed, and hung in an art gallery, Warhol succeeded in turning these mundane images into ironic "art". An interesting fact about Andy Warhol is that, In July of 1968 a woman named Valerie Solanis shot the pop artist two to three times into his chest. Andy was seriously wounded and only narrowly escaped death. Valerie Solanis had worked occasionally for the artist in the Factory, his studio. Solanis had founded a group named SCUM (Society for Cutting Up Men) and she was its sole member. Life changing moments like this greatly influenced Andy and his art.

2. Question: What was the influence on him by his culture of the 60’s?

In the sixties Warhol started painting daily objects of mass production like Campbell Soup cans and Coke bottles. Soon he became a famous figure in the New York art scene. From 1962 on he started making silkscreen prints of famous personalities like Marilyn Monroe or Elizabeth Taylor. His influence was major celebrities of his time and ordinary brand names such as coke for example.

3. Question: How does it relate to our present day culture?

This relates to our present day culture in that art is always changing for example pop art was big in the 1960’s but now in the 2000’s modern art is more in demand. Andy Warhol was well known back during his lifetime but is still being remembered 20 years after his death, for example his life’s work is being portrayed in two museums the Andy Warhol museum, and the second is the Carnegie Museum of Pittsburgh.

Triptych Questions

Here, is my Triptych that has 3 different topics about myself, first i have my entertainment section, second i have the art I've created in media arts, and third i have my travel photos.

Here, are the questions and answers about my Triptych.

1. Explain what each panel represents about you.

My first panel is my entertainment panel, it represents my likes of the media. My pictures used in this section are of T.V. shows, movies, bands and items used play music. These pictures represent my liking of technology, and a good laugh because most of the pictures are of funny T.V. shows or funny movies. My second panel is my Media Arts section it is composed of all the photos I’ve personally taken or taken off the internet and have changed the image in some way. My Media Art photos show my creativity and artistic edge to my life. My third panel is my travel panel it is composed of my trip to Spain last summer this panel shows my adventurous side of my life, and that I love my family.

2. Explain how you used the elements of line, texture, color and shape in your work.

I used the element of line in my first panel on the bottom, I used the image of Peter Griffin from the T.V. show Family Guy, I used curved lines throughout his image, which made him look like a puzzle. The element of texture can be found in my travel panel, all of my travel photos have a great deal of visual texture, which makes them stand out. I used the element of color in my Media Arts panel in my giant flower image near the top. The flowers have many of the colors from the color wheel. I used the element of shape in my entertainment panel, I used a picture of my ipod. The ipod contains many geometric shapes.

3. Choose one area of the triptych which you feel is an area of strength and write why that is so.

I find my travel section to have lots of strength compared to my other panels because these were purely pictures that I took in Spain last summer, so it means a lot to me compared to taking images off the internet. I also find this panel to have a lot of strength because of the composition of my images, I like how I used city images on the bottom and worked up into my landscape images.


4. Choose one area of the triptych that you feel could use more attention to make it more effective and write why you think this.

I believe I could have improved on my travel section by possibly adding more pictures, or by taking off more of my entertainment photos because I see that panels as sort of a mess with too many images.
